Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo
International Centre, Toronto
November 5-6, 2008

Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo Features Industry-Leading Educational Seminars and Special Events

Tours of Canadian Recycling and Waste Disposal Facilities Kick Off Trade Show

The Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo (CWRE) returns to Toronto’s International Centre on Nov. 5-6 for its 11th year as Canada’s only trade show serving the waste, recycling and public works markets.

In addition to viewing the latest products and services being offered by exhibitors representing all categories of the waste industry, from collection and hauling to processing and disposal, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and issues in the field from leading industry experts.

“The continuing emphasis on greener practices by both government and industry has created a climate of rapid change for waste management and recycling,” said Arnie Gess, show manager for Messe Frankfurt. “Our exhibits and seminar series help arm participants with the tools and techniques to navigate these changes.”

Facility Tours
Preceding the commencement of the tradeshow, on Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Ontario Waste Management Association is sponsoring Recycling Facility and Waste Disposal Tours, which will visit facilities throughout Southern Ontario that work with materials from the residential, and industrial, commercial and institutional (IC&I) sectors. Space for these tours is limited and attendees are encouraged to book early.

CWRE Seminars
Sponsored by supporting associations and presented by experts, industry leaders and government officials, CWRE’s seminar program will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 5, featuring sessions focusing on new challenges for hazardous waste generators, environmental waste reduction programs, waste reduction through organics recovery, new developments in environment law, markets for compost, integrated waste management in Algonquin provincial park, disposal of waste residuals, and promoting health and wellness in waste collection.

The Plenary Session sponsored by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities will address “Low Waste to No Waste: How Canadian Municipalities Are Managing Their Waste.” This session is free to all CWRE attendees.

Thursday’s seminar sessions will cover topics including climate change issues relating to the waste management sector, new advances in curbside waste collection, landfill gas, strategic planning for waste management, York Region’s MRF residue experience, avoiding public opposition that kills waste projects, the impact of the new Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste Plan on municipalities, greenhouse gas offset credit marketing and construction & demolition waste diversion and processing technology.

Special Industry Events
CWRE 2008 will also host several special events at the show including the Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA) pre-seminar breakfast presentation on “New Directions for Waste Management;” the SWANA Ontario Chapter’s Luncheon and Annual General Meeting; the Ontario Waste Management Association (OWMA) Reception in the CWRE Exhibit Hall; and MWIN’s Annual Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo Luncheon, featuring a presentation on “The Reality of Carbon Trading, The New California Market.”
